Our History
Founded in 1996, DCS Concrete has proudly served Red Deer and the surrounding area for over 28 years. Doug and Shawna Schwab recognized the need for a small-scale concrete company dedicated to delivering high-quality decorative concrete with exceptional customer satisfaction. From this vision, DCS Concrete was born—named after their family: D for Doug, S for Shawna, and C for their newborn son, Cody, later shared with his little sister, Caitlyn.
As a family-run business, DCS has always valued its roots, employing many relatives over the years to uphold the company’s personal touch. Although we suffered a great loss with Shawna’s passing in 2020, her legacy lives on in everything we do. We carry her memory in our hearts, continuing to grow the business she and Doug built together with the same dedication and pride that inspired its foundation.

Doug takes immense pride in running a locally owned, family-operated business built on trust, quality, and community. With over 30 years of hands-on experience, Doug has earned a reputation for delivering exceptional, detail-oriented concrete work that has delighted thousands of satisfied customers across Central Alberta. Known for his creative vision and ability to tackle challenges that others avoid, Doug consistently designs and executes stunning decorative concrete projects that stand out.
What truly sets Doug apart is his unwavering commitment to excellence and his genuine passion for transforming ideas into reality. When he’s not perfecting his craft, Doug cherishes spending time with his family—his two children, Caitlyn and Cody, and Cody’s wife, Whitney. Family is at the heart of everything Doug does, and that dedication shines through in the work he delivers.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Concrete
With the rising popularity of exposed aggregate concrete, DCS recognized a critical environmental challenge: the damage caused by concrete slurry to city drainage systems. When improperly managed, this slurry—a mixture of water, cement, and fine particles—can harden within drainage infrastructure, leading to blockages, costly repairs, and long-term environmental harm.
To tackle this issue, we developed a highly efficient washing system that sets a new standard for sustainability. Unlike conventional methods that rely on large amounts of water to expose the surface, our system uses a fraction of the water while still achieving flawless results. Additionally, our process contains and captures nearly all slurry runoff, which is then safely disposed of back at the concrete plant.
